SYMPTOMS

After you suddenly remove a universal serial bus (USB) floppy drive cable from a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, the computer may stop responding. Additionally, you may receive a “Stop 0x00000023” error message.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following options:

  • Use media that is not floppy-based, such as a USB flash drive.
  • Do not suddenly remove the USB floppy drive cable when the USB floppy drive is being used.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
