SYMPTOMS
On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, you try to create a Software Installation Group Policy object for a 64-bit Microsoft Windows Installer package file. The package is labeled as an x64 package. However, Windows Server 2003 cannot create the Group Policy object.
Note The Group Policy object can be created if the Windows Installer package is labeled as a AMD64 package.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because Windows Server 2003 cannot identify the Windows Installer package as a x64 package. A new label naming scheme was implemented for Windows Installer packages that are used for software distribution. In this scheme, Windows Installer packages that are used on 64-bit extended processors are labeled as x64 packages. The x64 packages cannot be installed on Itanium-based computers.
