Article ID: 898655

Article Last Modified on 7/25/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft CRM 1.2

SYMPTOMS

When the Microsoft CRM Deletion Service (CrmDeletionService.exe) performs a scheduled cleanup operation in Microsoft Business Solutions CRM 1.2, the following event is logged in the Application event log on the Microsoft CRM server: Event source: MSCRMDeletionService
Event category: None
Event ID: 5895
Date: date
Time: time
Type: Error
User: N/A
Computer: computer name
Description: Error: Can't clean up the following tables: Activity.

If you manually run the Microsoft CRM Deletion Service by using the crmdeletionservice.exe -console command, the same event is logged. Additionally, you receive the following error message at the command prompt where you ran the crmdeletionservice.exe command:

Can't clean up the following tables: Activity.
Service successfully executed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • You delete an activity party for a Phone Call activity.

Note An activity party may be a user, a contact, a lead, or an account that was listed as the call initiator or the call recipient. An activity may be any one of the following activities:

    Task
    Fax
    Phone Call
    Letter
    Appointment

  • The Microsoft CRM Deletion Service runs and removes this activity party from the Microsoft CRM database.
  • You delete the activity that is associated with the activity party that was deleted.

When the Microsoft CRM Deletion Service runs after you delete an activity party, the Microsoft CRM Deletion Service removes the activity party from the Microsoft CRM database. However, the Microsoft CRM Deletion Service does not remove the activity that is associated with this activity party as expected. The Microsoft CRM Deletion Service cannot remove the activity.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft CRM has a fix for this problem that is part of a cumulative update. The cumulative update information is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

904435 Update Rollup 2 is available for Microsoft CRM 1.2
