You receive an "Unexpected Error" error message when you try to save an opportunity, a quote, an order, an invoice, or a case in Microsoft CRM 1.2

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save an opportunity, a quote, an order, an invoice, or a case in Microsoft CRM 1.2, you receive the following error message:

Unexpected Error

An error has occurred. For more information, contact your system administrator.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • You try to save an opportunity, a quote, an order, an invoice, or a case that pertains to a particular contact or to a particular account.
  • That contact name or that account name contains the following words or characters:
    • type
    • type=

For example, this problem occurs if you try to save a new opportunity for an account that has the following name:

type=0


RESOLUTION

Microsoft CRM has a fix for this problem that is part of a cumulative update. The cumulative update information is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
