SYMPTOMS
If you use the DHCPClassID option in the Sysprep.inf file, the DHCPClassID option is not transmitted correctly over the network connection. You use the DHCPClassID option when you use the System Preparation tool (Sysprep.exe) to deploy a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer. The DHCPClassID option is not transmitted correctly over the network connection before the mini-setup wizard runs. Additionally, the mini-Setup wizard cannot join the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) client computer to a domain.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, wait until mini-Setup has completed and the DHCP client has been restarted. The DHCPClassID option is available after mini-Setup has completed and the DHCP client has been restarted. If you restart the DHCP client during the mini-Setup, the DHCPClassID option settings are correctly picked up from the registry. When the DHCPClassID option settings are correctly picked up from the registry, the DHCPClassID option is transmitted correctly over the network connection. Alternatively, you can add a GUIrunOnce section in the Sysprep.inf file to join the DHCP client computer to the domain.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
