Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous Analysis Services fix release.

SYMPTOMS

When you modify the security of a custom dimension in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, you may intermittently receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Dimension Security Syntax Error:
Set name 48818.79 is not valid.
Do you still want to use this expression for dimension security.

You experience this problem when the following conditions are true:

  • You click the Dimensions tab in a role, and then you click the ellipsis button under Custom Settings for a particular dimension.
  • You click OK in the Custom Dimension Security dialog box that appears.


Note You do not make any changes to the list of allowed or denied members.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a problem in the Analysis Manager user interface.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services service pack that contains this hotfix.
