SYMPTOMS
After you share an opportunity with another user in Microsoft Business Solutions CRM 1.2, you cannot remove that user from the sharing settings of that opportunity. When you try to remove that user from the sharing settings, you experience the following symptom.
When you click to select the check box that corresponds to the user whom you want to remove and then click Remove Selected Items, the user record no longer appears in the Who would you like to share the selected opportunity with? dialog box, as you expect. However, after you click OK, the next time that you click Sharing on the Actions menu of that opportunity, that user again appears in the Who would you like to share the selected opportunity with? dialog box. Additionally, that user has all the following permissions assigned:
- Read
- Write
- Delete
- Append
- Assign
- Share
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- You create an opportunity that is linked to an account that another user owns. Or, you create an opportunity that is linked to a contact that another user owns.
- You share this opportunity with that other user.
When you share an opportunity with the owner of the record to which the opportunity is linked, you cannot remove that owner from the opportunity's sharing settings.
RESOLUTION
Microsoft CRM has a fix for this problem that is part of a cumulative update. The cumulative update information is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Installation information
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
Install this update on computers that are running Microsoft CRM 1.2 Server.
After you install this hotfix, it is automatically enabled. However, Microsoft may distribute this hotfix in a Microsoft CRM 1.2 update rollup. If you have already installed this hotfix, this hotfix will be enabled when you install a Microsoft CRM 1.2 update rollup. However, if you have not installed this hotfix, you must manually enable this hotfix after you install the update rollup.
To enable the hotfix on a computer that is running Microsoft CRM 1.2 Server if you install the update rollup but you have not previously installed the hotfix:
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type Enable896082, and then press ENTER.
- Double-click Enable896082, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.
- Restart Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). To do this, click Start, click Run, type iisreset, and then click OK.
