Bug #: 471104 (SQL Server 8.0)

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.

SUMMARY

This article describes the following about this hotfix release:

  • The issues that are fixed by this hotfix package
  • The prerequisites for installing the hotfix package
  • Whether you must restart your computer after you install the hotfix package
  • Whether the hotfix package is replaced by any other hotfix package
  • Whether you must make any registry changes

SYMPTOMS

When concurrent applications or multithreaded applications try to call the sp_addlogin stored procedure, two SQL Server user logins may be created for the same user. These user logins have the same user names and passwords. However, these user logins have different security identification (SID) numbers.

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • The user logins have different default databases in SQL Server 2000.
  • The user logins are requested within a very short time. For example, you may experience this problem if the user logins are requested within one second of each other.

Note This problem applies to SQL Server authenticated logins only.
