Bug #: 473650 (SQL Server 8.0)

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.

SUMMARY

This article describes the following about this hotfix release:

  • The issues that are fixed by this hotfix package
  • The prerequisites for installing the hotfix package
  • Whether you must restart the computer after you install the hotfix package
  • Whether the hotfix package is replaced by any other hotfix package
  • Whether you must make any registry changes
  • The files that are contained in the hotfix package

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Transact-SQL BULK INSERT command in Microsoft SQL Server 2000, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • You may experience unexpected delays in query execution.
  • You may experience unexpected time-out situations.
  • You may receive error message 17883 in the SQL Server error log.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the worker does not correctly yield the User Mode Scheduler (UMS).

The BULK INSERT command may not correctly yield the UMS when you try to insert a large block of data into SQL Server 2000 on a computer that has 2 gigabytes (GB) or more of physical memory. This causes the UMS to unexpectedly stall.

RESOLUTION
