SYMPTOMS

When you log off from a server that has Terminal Server enabled in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), an event that resembles the following may be logged in the System event log: Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: 8/12/2005
Time: 7:33:18 PM
User: N/A
Computer: TSSERVERNAME
Description: Application popup: Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \;V:Shared\Username\IE\index.dat. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

This problem occurs when the My Documents folder is redirected to a remote shared directory.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Microsoft Window Redirector closes the network connection to the file server before the Window Redirector closes the handle to the file.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
