SUMMARY

A Microsoft Business Solutions CRM 1.2 hotfix rollup is available that fixes the problems that are described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:

835309 Managers may not be able to see a Microsoft CRM user's records, and Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook client users may not be able to see their records in the Outlook client after the they go offline


839157 When you try to move business units in Microsoft CRM, you receive an error message


870577 You may experience timeouts or slow performance, you may see that the SecurityDescriptor field values are much longer than 1,000 characters, or you may not be able to read or write to records that exist in a child business unit in Microsoft CRM 1.2


883463 Deep privileges are not inherited by the subunits of a child business unit after the parent business unit is reassigned to a different business unit


890587 Users cannot view records when the records are in a child business unit or in the subunit of a child business unit that was reassigned to a new parent business unit in Microsoft CRM 1.2


890589 Microsoft CRM "Parent: Child Business Unit" privileges only work with records that are one level under the current business unit


RESOLUTION

Hotfix rollup information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next version of Microsoft CRM that contains this hotfix.

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. Installation information

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

Apply this hotfix rollup to computers that are running Microsoft CRM 1.2 Server. To enable this hotfix, you must complete the following additional steps after you apply this hotfix rollup:

  1. Add three new registry entries to enable this hotfix rollup. To do this, follow these steps.

    Notes
    • Before you can move users between business units or before you can reassign business units, these new registry entries must exist and must have a value of 1.
    • When you are not moving users between business units or when you are not reassigning business units, you can return Microsoft CRM to its default functionality. To do this, set the values of the registry entries back to 0.
    1. On the Microsoft CRM server, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM

    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value.
    4. Type AllowBusinessReparentingHotfix, and then press ENTER.
    5. Right-click AllowBusinessReparentingHotfix, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value Data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    7. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value.
    8. Type DetachRoleGroupsFromParentForcibly, and then press ENTER.
    9. Right-click DetachRoleGroupsFromParentForcibly, and then click Modify.
    10. In the Value Data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    11. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value.
    12. Type FixUserBusinessUnit, and then press ENTER.
    13. Right-click FixUserBusinessUnit, and then click Modify.
    14. In the Value Data box type 1, and then click OK.
    15. Quit Registry Editor.
  2. Restart the Microsoft CRM Security Service on the Microsoft CRM server. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type the following, and then click OK:

      net stop “microsoft crm security service”

    2. After the Microsoft CRM Security Service stops, click Start, click Run, type the following, and then click OK:

      net start “microsoft crm security service”

  3. Run the Administrative Operations Tool, and then use the Repair Object Security operation.

  4. Run the CRMADRecovery tool.

  5. If any users were moved between business units before you applied this hotfix rollup, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to correct the problems.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix rollup, you must have Microsoft CRM 1.2 installed.

Removal information

To remove this hotfix rollup from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows 2000, use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

System administrators can use the Spunist.exe utility to remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows 2000. The Spuninst.exe utility is located in the %windir%\$NTUninstallKB890424$\Spuninst folder.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted, restart the computer after you apply this hotfix rollup. You do not have to restart your client computers after you install this hotfix rollup.
