FIX: An exception of type "System.Security.SecurityException" occurs when your application tries to write an event log entry in the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1

SYMPTOMS

When your application tries to write an event log entry in Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1), an exception of type System.Security.SecurityException occurs. You experience this problem when the following two conditions are true:

  • The application runs with non-administrator permissions.
  • The name of the log that is written to starts with a character between S and Z.


RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
