The Update for Office 2003 (KB885828) fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Incorrect Lotus Notes Database Opens

In an Office 2003 document, when you click a hyperlink to a Lotus Notes database, the incorrect Notes database opens in Lotus Notes.

The fix that this update contains lets you use the following standard Lotus Notes format for Notes database links:

Menus may be unavailable in Word Viewer 2003

Some menus may be unavailable in Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, such as the Answer Wizard menu on the main menu bar. This issue occurs if Word Viewer is installed on a computer with a language-specific version of Office 2003.

You are prompted to download an EUL in Excel Viewer 2003

In Microsoft Office Excel Viewer 2003, when you open a workbook that uses Information Rights Management (IRM), you may be prompted to download an end user license (EUL) even though you have downloaded an EUL earlier for the same workbook.

Incorrect information displayed in the About dialog box

The About Microsoft Excel Viewer dialog box and the About Microsoft Word Viewer dialog box incorrectly display the This product is licensed to box. After you install this update, the This product is licensed to box will be removed from the About Microsoft Excel Viewer dialog box.

Word Viewer 2003 uses wrong language for menus

When you install Word Viewer 2003 for a language that is different from the default language that is enabled on the computer, Word Viewer uses the default language for the menus and for the dialog boxes.

Smart Tags are sent in an e-mail message when the feature is disabled

If the following conditions are true, Smart Tags are not removed from an e-mail message:

  • In Microsoft Office Word 2003, you click to clear the Save smart tags in e-mail check box in the E-mail Options dialog box.
  • You send a document as an e-mail message. The document contains Smart Tags.


Excel Viewer 2003 Help files in the English language

When you view the Help files for Excel Viewer 2003, they are in the English language. The Help files are not in the default language for Excel Viewer 2003.

Excel Viewer crashes when you open a workbook that contains a script

When you use Excel Viewer 2003 to open an Excel workbook that contains a script, Excel Viewer may stop responding. Or, Excel Viewer may crash.

DM 5.1 causes Word 2003 to unexpectedly quit

Hummingbird DM 5.1 is a document management program. In Word 2003, you work with a Word 2003 document that was checked out for editing or for reviewing by using Hummingbird DM 5.1. In this scenario, Word 2003 may unexpectedly quit. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:

Known issues

Known issues that may occur after the update is installed

After you install this update on a computer that has either Microsoft Office Visio 2003 or Microsoft Office Project 2003 installed, you examine the version of the Mso.dll file. The file version is earlier than 11.0.6408.0. This indicates that the Mso.dll file has been replaced with an older version of the file.

This issue occurs when the Mso.dll file becomes corrupted.
