SYMPTOMS

A server process ID (SPID) stops responding with a NETWORKIO (0x800) waittype and a constantly increasing waittime. If the problem occurs, you see the NETWORKIO waittype and a high waittype in SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager under Process Info or in the sysprocesses table in the master database. The only way to end the process is to kill the SPID.

Note This problem may occur during any Transact-SQL command, but the problem is most likely to occur when the client application performs a bulk insert operation.

For a list of previous hotfixes, see the "Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Post-Service Pack 3 or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Post-Service Pack 3a hotfixes" section in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

CAUSE

MORE INFORMATION

The NETWORKIO (0x800) waittype indicates that the SPID is waiting for the client application to fetch the data before the SPID can send more results to the client application.

Note These symptoms are the same as the symptoms that are seen when a client application does not fully fetch query results. Incomplete result set processing is a much more common cause of the symptoms.
