SYMPTOMS

After your Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer has been running for several days, the DHCP Server service may stop processing Domain Name System (DNS) dynamic updates. Additionally, the DHCP Server service may start logging the following error message in the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) activity log file (DhscpSrvLog-Day.log):

DNS_ERROR_TRY_AGAIN_LATER

This error message may be logged frequently and many times.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the maximum queue count size for DNS registration in Windows Server 2003 has been surpassed.

RESOLUTION

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, restart the DHCP Server service on the Windows Server 2003-based computer that is logging the error messages.
