PPT3: Using the Harvard Graphics (HG) Translator with PowerPoint

Last reviewed: March 20, 1998
Article ID: Q85902

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, version 3.0

SUMMARY

If you plan to convert Harvard Graphics files to Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows files with the HG Translator, do not install version 3.0 of PowerPoint for Windows into the same directory as version 2.0 of PowerPoint for Windows. If the Setup program detects that you are attempting to install to the same directory, a warning message stating that it will be necessary to delete the HG Translator will appear. If you select Continue, the HG Translator will be deleted from your hard disk.

MORE INFORMATION

The HG Translator is a utility that ships with version 2.0e of PowerPoint for Windows and is also available as a separate item from Microsoft End User Sales. It converts "chart" (.CHT), "show" (.SHW) and "palette" (.PAL) files created by Harvard Graphics version 2.3 and earlier into PowerPoint 2.0 formatted files.

The HG Translator was designed specifically for version 2.0 of PowerPoint and uses files that are only included with that version.
