SYMPTOMS

A Microsoft Windows 2000-based or Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based secondary Domain Name System (DNS) server stops transferring the secondary zone from the primary DNS server. This symptom occurs after the secondary DNS server has been turned on for more than 50 days.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a problem in the secondary DNS server timing routines.

RESOLUTION

Windows 2000 Server

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
