APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition, when used with:
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (32-bit x86)
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (32-bit x86)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

  • You configure the Performance tool to display values for the Avg Recipients/msg Sent counter for the SMTP Server performance object.
  • You send an SMTP message to an e-mail recipient.
  • This message is sent between two computers that are running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.

In this scenario, when you view the value for the Avg Recipients/msg Sent counter, you notice that the value is incremented by 2. You expect the value to be incremented by only 1 because you sent the message to only one recipient.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you are running Exchange 2003 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

Note This problem does not occur if you are running Exchange 2003 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3) or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4 (SP4).
