SYMPTOMS
When you try to use the Dsquery command-line tool with the -p parameter to specify a password on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer or Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue in Windows 2000, use Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) with Windows 2000.
RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing.
