Microsoft SQL Server 2000 hotfixes are distributed as one downloadable file. Because the hotfixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 hotfix release.
SYMPTOMS
When a query runs as a parallel query in SQL Server 2000, the thread priority of some of the threads that are involved in parallel execution is raised. However, the thread priority of those threads is not reset after the query is finished.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, set the max degree of parallelism sp_configure option to 1.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4.
MORE INFORMATION
This hotfix only fixes the thread priority problem. You may experience high CPU usage after you apply this hotfix if you run inappropriate code in the Sqlservr.exe process.
