Bug #: 471263 (SQL Server 8.0)

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes are distributed as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

When you try to perform a Bulk Import operation to transfer the data from a source file, such as a text file, to a SQL Server table by using either a Transact-SQL command, such as Bulk Insert, or by using the DTS Import/Export Wizard, an access violation exception may occur. The data is not successfully imported to the SQL Server table.

When the access violation exception occurs, you may receive the following error message:

ODBC: Msg 0, Level 19, State 1
SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 52 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • The Bulk Import operation tries to insert values in the IDENTITY column of the SQL Server table by using the KEEPIDENTITY parameter.

Note If you are using the DTS Import/Export Wizard, the Enable identity insert option is turned on for the transformation.

  • The table is referenced by an indexed view.
  • A clustered index is defined on the view that references the SQL Server table.
