Bug #: 471156 (SHILOH_BUGS)
Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.
SYMPTOMS
After you apply the hotfix that is described in Q825042 or any other hotfix with SQL Server version 8.00.0840 or later, calls to the xp_logininfo procedure may fail with error 8198 and you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
If the application reports the state of the error, it will typically be either state 31 or state 34.
A common symptom is for SQL Server Agent jobs to fail because the SQL Server Agent uses the xp_logininfo extended stored procedure to schedule jobs.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4.
MORE INFORMATION
Hotfix Q825042 includes new code to use the AuthZ family of APIs (on operating systems that support this set of APIs) to correctly determine group membership when there are nested groups. The code does not correctly handle the following two types of security identifiers that may exist for a user, and may return false failure conditions:
- Login SID
- SIDhistory SID
