SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Sysprep tool to deploy a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, if the computer name is entered in lower case letters in an answer file, the computer name is changed to upper case letters when Mini-setup has completed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Mini-setup is hard-coded to set the computer name to uppercase, regardless of the case of the ComputerName entry in the Sysprep.inf answer file.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
