SYMPTOMS
If you apply the MS03-048 security update to Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5, or if you apply a software update that contains this security update to Internet Explorer 5.5, you may experience scripting errors when you visit a Web site that uses the SmartNav feature.
Note The SmartNav feature is included with Microsoft ASP.NET.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the MS03-048 security update prevents the SmartNav feature from working correctly.
RESOLUTION
To maintain the security integrity of the Internet Explorer 5.5 browser that the MS03-048 security update provides, this software update removes support for the SmartNav feature in Internet Explorer 5.5. It also prevents scripting errors when you visit Web sites that use the SmartNav feature.
Software update information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.
