APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

SYMPTOMS

When you try to download a Microsoft .NET Framework assembly (either an .exe module or a .dll module) by using Microsoft Internet Explorer, the download fails. You will notice that the module does not appear in the download cache. Also, if the module implements a control, the control does not appear in the Web browser.

This problem occurs if the Web server has HTTP compression enabled.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a bug exists in the Microsoft common language runtime. This bug causes the common language runtime to try to use the downloaded module while Internet Explorer is still using the module. This behavior causes a sharing violation that prevents the download from completing successfully.

RESOLUTION
