Additional issues that are fixed by Office XP SP3

Excel quits unexpectedly when you open an XML spreadsheet

In Excel 2002, when you open XML spreadsheet that is generated in the Microsoft Office XP Spreadsheet Web Component, and run Print Preview, Excel may quit unexpectedly. The cause of this problem is insufficient printing information.

Excel 2002 finds the wrong character when you search for a specific extended character

Excel 2002 finds the wrong character when you search for a specific extended character.

The EnableItemSelection method does not work

If you use a OLAP source for pivot table in Excel 2002, your call to the EnableItemSelection method does not work and you may receive a VBA error 1004. This issue does not occur if the pivot table uses an SQL or an internal source for the data.

The constant for the sort method is xlStroke

When you record a macro of a phonetic sort of a column in Excel 2002, Chinese Traditional version, Excel 2002 uses the constant xlStroke for the sort method instead of the constant xlPinYin for the phonetic sort.

VBA modules are lost when you apply a digital signature to a workbook

When you apply a digital signature to an Excel 2000 or Excel 97 workbook by using Excel 2002, VBA modules that belong to the workbook may be lost after you save the workbook. When you open the workbook, you may receive the following Microsoft Visual Basic error message:

Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost.

If you click OK, and then click Enable Macros, you may receive the following error message:

Errors were detected in 'file_name.xls,' but Microsoft Excel was able to open the file by making repairs listed below. Save the file to make these repairs permanent.

Lost Visual Basic project.
Lost ActiveX controls.

Excel 2002 stops responding when you change the criteria parameter in the database function call

Excel 2002 stops responding when using a database function, such as DSUM, when the criteria parameter for the function is based on a cell that is automatically filled by using the =Rand() function or the =RANDBETWEEN() function.

Excel 2002 does not correctly convert XML data

When you open an XML document by using Excel 2002, only the last element of each row in the XML data table imports into the worksheet.

You receive the "Cannot run 'MSQUERY.EXE'" error message on a Windows 98-based computer

When you try to import external data into a workbook, the MSQuery program stops responding, or you receive the following error message:

Cannot run "MSQuery.exe"

The VBA HPageBreaks.Add method may cause Excel 2002 to stop responding

When you use a VBA macro to set page breaks in an Excel 2002 workbook, through use of the HPageBreaks.Add method, you may receive the following run-time error message:

Run-time error '-2147417848 (80010108)':

Automation error
The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.

You receive the "-2147417848 Method 'Style' of object 'Range' failed" runtime error message when you run a VBA macro

When you try to run a macro in an Excel workbook, you may receive the following runtime error message:

-2147417848 Method 'Style' of object 'Range' failed

If you comment out all the lines of code that perform some form formatting in the workbook, the macro functions without error.

Drawing objects move after you save an Excel 2002 workbook

When you save an Excel 2002 workbook, any drawing objects, such as rectangles, ovals, and other objects may change position on the worksheet after you save, close, and then open the workbook.

Linked sheets may cause an "Unexpected Error" error message in a Web browser with Basic authentication

When you update a link from one Excel sheet to another Excel sheet, you will receive an "Unexpected error" error message. This issue occurs if the files are located on an Microsoft IIS Server with Basic Authentication and are opened in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

You receive the "Unable to derive parameter information when parameter marker is a function argument" error message when you create a new database query

When you create a new database query to retrieve data from an SQL server, you may receive the following error message:

ODBC SQL Server Driver
Unable to derive parameter information when parameter marker is a function argument.

When you click OK you receive the following error message:

ODBC SQL Server Driver
Invalid descriptor index

Excel file is opened by using OLE and then closed but Excel process does not quit

When you open and close a specific Excel file by using object linking and embedding (OLE) automation, the Excel process does not quit as expected.

A shared Excel workbook quits unexpectedly when you try to save

Excel may quit unexpectedly when you open or when you save a shared Microsoft Excel workbook that contains custom views, and one or more of these views contains a multiple of 10 page breaks--for example, 10, 20, 30, and so on.

Data is lost when your Excel 2002 workbook contains data that was set by using a callback to the xlDefineBinaryName function

When you save a Microsoft Excel 2002 file that contains data that was set by using a callback to the xlDefineBinaryName function, if the workbook is password protected and the data is larger than the maximum bytes that can fit in a record, all the subsequent data is lost when you reopen the workbook.
