The Information Store service stops responding when an OWA client tries to open a contact distribution list

SYMPTOMS

When a user tries to open a contact distribution list by using Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), the Information Store service may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • The mail attribute value for a user account in your Microsoft Exchange 2000 organization is empty.
  • The user who is associated with this empty mail attribute value is included in a contact distribution list of the OWA user who experiences the issue that is described in the "Symptoms" section.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the August 2004 Exchange 2000 Server Post-Service Pack 3 update rollup.
