APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

SYMPTOMS

A multithreaded application that collects performance counter data from a series of servers by calling the PerformanceCounter.NextValue method may experience performance issues. For example, the application may run slowly. Slow performance is particularly noticeable if the servers are located on different networks that have links of different speeds and one or more of these networks are slow networks.

When one link is slow, this link causes all performance counter collection requests to other servers--including servers that are on low latency local networks--to be blocked, although the performance counter collection requests are running in independent threads.
