FIX: You may receive an error message when you use specific keyboard shortcuts in the DataGrid control

SYMPTOMS

You may receive an error message if you use one or more of the following keyboard shortcuts in the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 DataGrid control:

  • SHIFT + UP ARROW
  • SHIFT + DOWN ARROW
  • SHIFT + PAGE UP
  • SHIFT + PAGE DOWN

If you use one of these keyboard shortcuts, you may receive the following error message:

An unhandled exception of type 'System.IndexOutOfRangeException' occurred in system.windows.forms.dll. Additional information: Index was outside the bounds of the array.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the DataSource property is not set in the DataGrid control.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.
