SYMPTOMS

When you connect to a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based server by using a Terminal Services session from a client computer, open a Microsoft Office Visio 2003 drawing, copy a shape from that drawing, and then paste the shape into a Microsoft Word 2002 document, you receive the following error message:

Word is waiting for another application to complete an OLE action

If you click Cancel to cancel the message, the message reappears. The paste operation is not successful, and you have to use Task Manager to end the Visio.exe and the Winword.exe processes.

You do not experience these symptoms if you connect to the server by using the console session, or if you log on to the server locally, and then perform the same operation.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if both of the following conditions are true:

  • Visio and Word are running in Terminal Services application mode. That is, you use Visio and Word in a Terminal Services session on a client computer.
  • Windows Server 2003 incorrectly processes the names of the OLE objects in the copy-and-paste operation.
