SYMPTOMS

You experience this problem on a computer that uses an integrated device electronics (IDE) controller, and the IDE controller requires synchronization across all channels.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when a race condition exists between the call to the IdeStartIoSynchronized function and the call to the IoAllocateController function. The race condition causes Atapi.sys to complete the same request two times.
