  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services

Bug #: 14166 (Plato7x)

SYMPTOMS

When you use an ALTER CUBE statement to update a write-enabled dimension in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, the value that is written to the source column in the relational data souce may be incorrect if the updated value contains an embedded single quotation mark. The value that is written to the source column will be missing the character that comes before the embedded single quotation mark.

Here is an example:

ALTER CUBE [HR] UPDATE DIMENSION MEMBER [Employees].&[1], Full_Name ='O''Dell, Tina Slone'

Note With MDX syntax, embedded single quotation marks in string parameters must be delimited. Therefore, the two single quotation marks in the command in the example are required in the name O'Dell in order for the single quotation mark to be treated as an embedded quotation mark and not as the end of the string that is assigned to Full_Name.

If you run the command that is in the example, the Full_Name' member property for employee #1 that is in the relational data source becomes Dell, Tina Slone instead of O'Dell, Tina Slone as expected.
