FIX: You experience performance problems and compatibility problems between Fujitsu COBOL and the MSIL Assembler in Visual Studio .NET 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you are using Fujitsu COBOL with the Microsoft intermediate language (MSIL) Assembler (Ilasm.exe), you may experience one or more of the following problems:

  • The MSIL Assembler may take a long time to compile the code.
  • The COBOL debugger cannot identify the next step because the .line directive is not clear.
  • The MSIL Assembler may cause a stack overflow at the YACC utility if many switch-case statements exist in the code.


RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
