SYMPTOMS

Distributed queries with a linked server may incorrectly use the SQL Server startup account for making a connection to the linked server instead of the configured linked server account, as specified by the sp_addlinkedsrvlogin stored procedure, when both the following conditions are met:

  • SQL Server is running in fiber mode. That is, the sp_configure stored procedure lightweight pooling option is set to 1.
  • The distributed query is being executed by a Microsoft Windows NT login, and the linked server security is configured to use the be made using the login's current security context option.
