Issues that are fixed in the hotfix package

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix package, but they were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • When you use a Lotus driver through a System Data Source Name (DSN) to connect to a data source for a mail merge in Microsoft Word 2002, Word 2002 may quit unexpectedly, and you receive the following error message:

Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When you view the details of the error message, you receive an error signature that is similar to one of the following:

App Name App Version Module Name Module Version Offset
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    Winword.exe 10.0.4219.0 Mso.dll 10.0.4219.0 00005ae9

    Winword.exe 10.0.4219.0 Mso.dll 10.0.5215.0 00017d52
  • In a Microsoft Office 2003 program, if you try to open or to save to a folder that is a redirected drive on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 computer that is running Terminal Services, you cannot open the folder on the client computer.
  • If your local computer policy has the function keys F1 through F11 turned off (11 function keys in total), you may not be able to type the lower case characters "p" through "z" (11 characters in total).
  • When the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service and your TWAIN device both use the same device name, the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is started regardless of the device that you select when you try to insert a picture from a scanner or from a camera in a Microsoft Office program.
  • When you run a custom program in Microsoft Office Word 2003 that converts many Word documents (*.doc) to Rich Text Format (*.rtf) files, Word 2003 may run out of memory.
