SYMPTOMS

When you run the Microsoft Office 2003 Custom Installation Wizard, you cannot set the security level for Microsoft Office Visio 2003.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Visio 2003 is not listed in the Default Security Levels box of the Specify Office Security Settings pane (12 of 15) of the Custom Installation Wizard.

WORKAROUND

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To work around this problem, add a registry key to the Custom Installation Wizard to change the Security Level for Visio 2003. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools, point to Microsoft Office 2003 Resource Kit, and then click Custom Installation Wizard.
  2. On the Add/Remove Registry Entries pane (9 of 15) of the Custom Installation Wizard, click Add on the Add Registry Entry tab.
  3. In the Add/Modify Registry Entry dialog box, follow these steps:
    1. Change the Root box to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
    2. Change the Data type box to REG_DWORD.
    3. In the Key box, type Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Visio\Security.
    4. In the Value name box, type Level.
    5. In the Value data box, type the number for the security level that you want to set for Visio 2003.

Note Type the number that you want for the security level in Visio 2003 based on the following table.

      Setting Security Level Description
4 Very High Only macros that are installed in trusted locations can run. All other signed and unsigned macros are disabled.
3 High Only signed macros from trusted sources can run. Unsigned macros are automatically disabled.
2 Medium You can choose if you want to run macros that are potentially unsafe.
1 Low You are not protected from macros that are potentially unsafe.
    6. Click OK to close the Add/Modify Registry Entry dialog box.
  4. Click Next, and then finish the Custom Installation Wizard.
