Issues that are fixed in the hotfix package

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix package:

  • 832890 "The document name or path is not valid" error message when you open a Word 2002 document that is in a document management program

  • 813914 Relative hyperlinks are not saved correctly in Office XP

  • 840989 You cannot view the presentation past the first slide when you open your PowerPoint 2002 presentation in Internet Explorer from an FTP Web site

  • 835214 How to make the "Find Printer" button unavailable in Office XP programs

  • 833854 A document that is opened from a hyperlink in Internet Explorer opens slowly in Office XP programs

The following issues are also fixed in this hotfix package:

  • You cannot type the lowercase letters "p" through "z" when you are using Office XP program such as Microsoft Outlook 2002 or Microsoft Word 2002. However, you can type the uppercase version of these same letters ("P" through "Z").

Note This issue occurs if you have a System Policy in place for an Office XP program that disables the shortcut keys F1 through F11. This may also disable the "p" through "z" keys in the Office XP program.
  • When you click From Scanner or Camera, the Insert Picture from Scanner or Camera dialog box lists two similar entries for your scanner or camera. Regardless of the entry that you click, the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) driver is always started and the TWAIN driver is not started.
  • When you print an Office XP document that contains a Microsoft Excel 3-D chart that has an image (such as a JPG or Bitmap image) in the plot area of the chart to a color laser printer, the background of the chart may print very large.
  • When you work with a Word 2002 document that is opened in Hummingbird DM 5.1 (a document management program), Word 2002 may quit unexpectedly and you receive the following error message:

Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you view the details of the error message, you find an error signature that is similar to the following:

Application Name Application Version Module Name Module Version Offset
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winword.exe 10.0.5522.0 Mso.dll 10.0.4219.0 00005ae9

    Winword.exe 10.0.5522.0 Mso.dll 10.0.4219.0 00004d7

  • If you open a document in Office XP that contains JPEG images, one of the following symptoms may occur:
    • Colors in the JPEG images do not show as their correct color.
    • Changing the zoom setting of the document does not correct the incorrect colors.
    • When you try to change the zoom setting of the document, you may receive the following error message:

Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you view the details of the error message, you find an error signature that is similar to the following:

Application Name Application Version Module Name Module Version Offset
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Winword.exe 10.0.5911.0 Mso.dll 10.0.5821.0 0031a980
  • After you insert a Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) picture in an Office XP document, the picture may not be displayed as expected.

For example, an inserted TIFF picture may display two-thirds of the picture correctly, but the remaining one-third of the picture may be garbled. The exact symptoms that you experience may be different.

For more information about this issue, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

294854 TIFF image is not displayed as expected

  • When you insert an image that contains text in an Office XP document and you set the background to be transparent, the text in the printout may appear a lighter color and may not appear as sharp or clearly-defined. The text may appear fuzzy.
  • When you try to find a word that contains the German Eszett character (ß) by using the Find feature in Microsoft Outlook 2002, the character is replaced with ss. The reverse may also occur where ss is replaced by the Eszett character. Eszett and ss are treated as the same characters in the Look for drop down list. For example, when you try to find the word Keßler, you find the word Kessler instead.
  • When you print an Excel chart in Excel 2002 that contains a texture in the chart area, the texture may not be printed to a PostScript printer.
  • If you print an Office XP workbook that contains an AutoShape with a gradient background, the print file may become so large that the file cannot be printed on some PostScript printers and you receive the following printer error message:

    Error: MemoryFull, Offending Command: image.
