Why do I receive the error message ‘Setup failed to locate a valid qualifying product on your machine. Please select the drive where a qualifying product can be found’?

A

If Office Setup does not detect a product that qualifies you to use the upgrade version, you may receive the error message above or ‘Error 1608. Could not find any previously installed compliant products on the machine for installing this product’. Microsoft Office is available in two versions, a non-upgrade version that you can install on any compatible computer, and an upgrade version that requires that a qualifying product be installed on your computer or that disk 1 from the qualifying product be available when you run the Setup program. Why do I receive the error message ‘Error 1305. Error reading from file: ’?

A

Depending on the version of the Windows Installer, you may also see the error message ‘Error reading from file: ’. This behaviour can occur if one of the following conditions are true: There is a configuration issue with the CD-ROM drive; The MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) is damaged or is not installed properly; There is an issue with the CD-ROM media. I am experiencing problems with the Windows Installer what should I do?

A

Microsoft has created the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, which allows you to safely remove Windows Installer-related registry settings from your computer in the event of a problem. The CleanUp utility allows you to select one or more Windows Installer programs in the dialog box that the utility displays and remove registry items that are related to the Windows Installer for the program or programs that are selected in the dialog box that the utility displays. I need to completely remove Microsoft Office, how can I do this?

A

The version of Microsoft Office you have installed will affect the method required to completely remove the installed files. If you have Office 97, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 158658. If you have Office 2000, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 219423 for instructions on removing CD1 files and 247684 for instructions on removing CD2 files. Microsoft Knowledge Base articles 239938 and 247674 outline Eraser 2000, a tool that can be used to completely remove any remaining Office 2000 files from CD1 and CD2 respectively.

Why do I receive the error message ‘Error 25506. Microsoft requires updated system files not detected on your computer’?.

A

This behaviour can occur if Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.52 or later is not installed on your computer. To resolve this issue you will need to download and install the latest version of MDAC from http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm

Why do I receive the error message ‘Internal Error 2889: Please contact product support for assistance.’?

A

Why do my Office Applications Quit as soon as I launch them?

A

This problem occurs when you do all of the following: You have the Beta 2 version (build 2221B) of Office installed –and- You install the released version of Office without first removing the Beta 2 version -and- You click Continue to the following error message during the installation: ‘Setup has detected a pre-release version of an Office 2000 family application installed on this computer. You must exit setup and uninstall the pre-release software before you install this released version. If you choose Continue, Office 2000 may not install properly.’ For further information and additional causes of this problem, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 224432.

When I run Office Setup why do I see this message ‘This patch package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package’?

A

This error message can occur if the Windows registry contains Windows Installer information from an earlier Office installation. To resolve this issue, run the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the Windows Installer registry settings, and then reinstall Office. For steps on how to do this, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 295823.

When I run setup for Office 2000, I see an error message with error code 1909, 1918, or 1919. What should I do?

A

This issue may occur if the following ODBC registry keys are missing HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ODBC and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC. These keys may have been removed if you removed a Corel product from your computer. These products include any program in the Corel WordPerfect Office Suite. To resolve this issue you will need to download and install MDAC 2.6 or later from http://www.microsoft.com/data

When I apply Office 2000 SR-1 why do I see this error message ‘The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available’?

A

This problem can occur if your existing Office 2000 installation needs to be repaired or two or more Office 2000 family products are installed on your computer, and the CD in the CD-ROM drive is not the Office product that is being requested. For example, you have Microsoft Access 2000 stand-alone and Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Edition installed, or you have Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Edition and Microsoft Office 2000 Premium installed.
