You receive a c1041724 or c1041722 error message when you try to mount an Exchange 2000 Server mailbox store

SYMPTOMS

When you try to mount a private information store (mailbox store) after you perform disaster recovery of a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer to a new computer, you may receive one of the following error messages:

An internal processing error has occurred. Try restarting the Exchange System Manager or the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, or both.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true:

  • The mailbox store does not have the Allow inheritable permissions to propagate to this object check box selected.
  • The Exchange Domain Servers group does not have Full control permissions on the mailbox store.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the Allow inheritable permissions to propagate to this object check box is selected on the Exchange 2000 computer. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open Exchange System Manager. To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then select System Manager.
    2. Right-click the mailbox store, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Security tab, and then click to select the Allow inheritable permissions to propagate to this object check box.
  2. Make sure that the Exchange Domain Servers group has Full control permissions to the mailbox store. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open Exchange System Manager.
    2. Right-click the mailbox store, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Security tab.
    4. In the Name box, click the Exchange Domain Servers group.
    5. In the Permissions list, locate Full, and then click to select the Allow check box.
    6. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  3. Make sure that the ServerName$ object has Full control permissions to the mailbox store. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open Exchange System Manager.
    2. Right-click the mailbox store, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Security tab.
    4. In the Name box, click the Server Name$ object.
    5. In the Permissions list, locate Full, and then click to select the Allow check box.
    6. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  4. Make sure that the ServerName$ is granted full permission to the server object. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open Exchange System Manager.
    2. Right-click the server object, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Security tab.
    4. In the Name box, click the ServerName$ object.
    5. In the Permissions list, locate Full, and then click to select the Allow check box.
    6. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  5. Mount the mailbox store.


MORE INFORMATION

After you perform disaster recovery of an Exchange 2000 Server computer to a new computer, the new computer must have the same server name and the same IP address as the old computer.
