The Site Replication Service does not process replication messages and event 1091 is logged even after hotfix 820537 is installed on Exchange 2000 Server

Article ID: 824420

Article Last Modified on 10/26/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 Service Pack 1
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 Service Pack 3

SYMPTOMS

On your Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer, the Site Replication Service (SRS) may not process directory replication messages. In this scenario, directory replication messages accumulate in the SRS mailbox.

Additionally, the following event may be logged to the application event log: Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeSRS
Event Category: Replication
Event ID: 1091
Description:
The directory replication agent (DRA) attempted to open mail with name /o=Organization/ou=Site/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=Server/cn=Microsoft DSA:UserName but received error 2152006410. Messages could not be sent. Make sure that the mail service on this Microsoft Exchange Server computer is running.

When the SRS does not process directory replication messages, newly created Exchange 2000 users in a mixed-mode Exchange 2000 environment are not replicated to remote Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 sites. Therefore, Exchange 5.5 users in remote sites cannot view newly added Exchange 2000 users in the Exchange 5.5 global address list.

Note This problem occurs even after you apply the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 820537. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the SRS continuously receives a shutdown error when it tries to access its mailbox.

Note Error 2152006410 indicates a status of MAPIDRA_E_DISCONNECTING.
