Windows 2000 Shadow Copies of Shared Folders client does not show the previous versions of the root directory of a mapped Windows Server 2003 network share

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Shadow Copies of Shared Folders client on a Windows 2000-based computer and view the Previous Versions tab, you cannot see the previous versions of the root directory of a mapped Windows Server 2003 network share. However, if you view the Previous Versions tab of a folder that is in this root directory, you can see the previous versions of that folder.

If you use the Shadow Copies of Shared Folders client on a Windows XP-based computer and view the Previous Versions tab, you can see the previous versions of the root directory of the Windows Server 2003 network share that you cannot see on the Windows 2000-based computer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you view the previous versions of the root directory of a mapped drive share. This problem does not occur if you use the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) to connect to the drive share.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem occurs with Shadow Copy Client version 5.2 and is resolved in Shadow Copy Client version 5.2.01. Shadow Copy Client version 5.2 appears in Add Remove Programs as Shadow Copy Client version 1.0.
