To Activate the Update

After you install the update on the server, you must edit the registry to activate the update. After you do so, users can connect to the server by using named pipes. To activate the update, add the EnhancedSecurityLevelNamedPipes registry value to the following registry key, and then set the value to 1:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

To do so, follow these steps.WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry entry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

Note Look at the key carefully. There may be a key named SessionManager (no space) rather than Session Manager (with a space). Do not use the SessionManager key; only use the Session Manager key.
  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  5. Type EnhancedSecurityLevelNamedPipes, and then press ENTER.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  8. Quit Registry Editor.
  9. Restart the server.
