SYMPTOMS

When you restart your computer, you may find that the computer stops responding (hangs) when it tries to mount a volume that is formatted with the NTFS file system.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if both of the following conditions are true:

  • A large number of changes were made to files on the volume.
  • NTFS processes these changes to the Update Sequence Number (USN) journal, and the journal becomes full during the mount operation.

In this situation, the mount operation is not processed correctly in Windows.
