SYMPTOMS

If you use version 2.0 of the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) to migrate users or groups from a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domain to a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 domain, you receive an error message that is similar to the following when you run the Security Translation Wizard:

Runtime Error!
Program: Drive:\winnt\system32\mmc.exe
Abnormal program termination

The user or the group is migrated to the Windows Server 2003 domain. However, the security identifier (SID) of the user or of the group is not translated.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the name of the source Windows NT 4.0 domain contains one or more apostrophe characters (').

RESOLUTION

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Active Directory Migration Tool version 2.0.
