Works Suite 2003: "Setup Detected That There Was an Error When You Tried to Install Previously" Error Message

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Works Suite 2003, you may receive the following error message:

Installation wizard was interrupted.

The installation package could not be opened. Please contact the application vendor to make sure this is a valid installation package.

After you close this error message, you receive the following error message:

Works Suite Setup detected that there was an error when you tried to install previously.

If you were forced to reset your computer or turn the power off and on because Setup stopped responding, most of the time clean booting your computer and attempting to re-install will fix this problem. Would you like to lean how to clean boot your computer?

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the Setup program cannot successfully access the installation files. This issue may be caused by other programs running on your computer, either in the foreground or in the background.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Restart Microsoft Windows in clean-boot mode. Each version of Windows has a different clean-boot procedure. From the following table, click the article that corresponds to your version of Windows, and then follow the instructions about how to perform a clean-boot procedure:

2. After you successfully perform a clean-boot procedure, try to install Works Suite 2003.

4. After you successfully install Works Suite 2003, restart your computer.
