SUMMARY

This article discusses several items that currently are not documented in the SP3aReadme.htm file for SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3a (SP3a).

MORE INFORMATION

The following information has changed since the publication of the SP3aReadme.htm file:

Optimizing Cell Writeback

SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) and SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3a (SP3a) improve the performance of cell writeback in Analysis Services by taking advantage of the bulk insert feature in SQL Server 2000 when performing permanent cell writeback operations on non-leaf cells. Clarification to Section 3.10 - Installing on a Failover Cluster

In section 3.10, under the title "To install SP3a on an Analysis Services cluster", it will read as follows:

  1. Install SP3a on an active node.
  2. Fail over from active node to failover node.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until all instances in the cluster are upgraded.

The Analysis Services SP3a installation must modify permissions on the Data folder that is located on the shared disc. The shared disc is only accessible to the active node at all times.

Additional Paragraph for Section 4.1 - Unattended Installations

In section 4.1, under the title "Unattended Installation Considerations", add the following paragraph:

When you use the -s switch with an .iss file to install SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3 (SP3) in unattended mode, the Error reporting dialog box remains open.
For more information about this issue, and to obtain the fix, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

814252 FIX: "Error Reporting" Dialog Box Remains Open During Analysis Services 2000 Service Pack 3 Silent Installation

Must Enable File and Print Sharing for Successful MSDE Installation

Make sure that you have File and Print Sharing enabled before you try to install MSDE. If you do not have File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks enabled in the Network Connections property box, the installation process may continue until it is almost finished and then unexpectedly roll back. If this occurs, the MSDE installation is not successful.
