SYMPTOMS
When you create a program that uses Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to control your Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO)-compatible storage solution, you experience the following symptom:
- The multipath driver does not display WMI classes information for the newly added storage equipment after you restart the computer. In some cases, the WMI information is displayed when you first load the multipath drivers, but then disappears after you restart the computer.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because certain functions in WMI allocate memory by using type BYTE instead of wide character (WCHAR). This causes buffer overruns or string truncations.
RESOLUTION

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
