SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft Money, Money quits. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Visual C++ Runtime Error Microsoft Money has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. To see what data this error report contains, click here.

When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that is similar to the following:

Note The exact versions and offset may vary.

Additionally, when you try to start Microsoft Money 2007, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Error - Shutting down ... Money has experienced a problem and cannot continue. If you are running low on memory, try closing some programs and running Money again.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if third-party software un-registers a critical Microsoft Money component. Currently, SnapStream Personal Video Station (PVS) software and Cellar! software may cause this issue.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow the steps in the appropriate section.

Windows Vista

Click Start[GRAPHIC: Start button], type regsvr32 "c:\windows\system32\msxml3.dll" in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

Microsoft Windows XP and earlier versions of Windows

Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 "c:\windows\system32\msxml3.dll" in the Open box, and then press ENTER.

Note On Microsoft Windows 2000-based computers, type regsvr32 "c:\winnt\system32\msxml3.dll".

Note If you receive the "LoadLibrary(msxml3.dll) failed - The specified module could not be found" error message, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  2. Click Open, and then click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  3. Click Browse, click Desktop, and then click OK two times.
  4. On your desktop, double-click msxml3.cab, right-click msxml3.dll, and then click Extract.
  5. In the Select a Destination dialog box, click the C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder (or click the C:\Winnt\System32 folder on a Windows 2000-based computer), and then click Extract.
  6. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 msxml3.dll in the Open box, and then press ENTER.

Note In the unlikely event that these steps do not resolve the issue, repeat step 6 three times. Every time, substitute Msxml3.dll in step 6 with the following files:

  • Msxml3a.dll
  • Msxml3r.dll
  • Msxmlr.dll
