SYMPTOMS

You will experience one or more of the following problems when you publish a database with a binary collation for merge replication on a prior build of SQL Server and you upgrade to SQL Server 2000 SP3, or when you try to publish a database with binary collation for merge replication, after you install SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3:

  • Existing merge replication publications can no longer be synchronized.
  • New merge replication publications cannot be created.
  • Existing merge replication publications cannot be dropped.
  • Merge replication publications disappear from the Replication Monitor in SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

Additionally, you may receive the following error message:

You do not have the required permissions to complete the operation.

CAUSE

The merge replication ISPALUSER system built-in function returns incorrect results when run in the context of a database that has a binary collation.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

Hotfix information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
