SYMPTOMS

When the tape ends and is ejected after you use Ntbackup.exe to append backup data to a tape, you may receive the following error messages

Mount Waiting: the library is unable to load the media at this time because the drive is in use. Media name: "tape_label_name"

Pending Operators Request: Place Media "tape_label_name" into drive or library unit.

where tape_label_name is the same label name for the tape that has been ejected. If you try to use a blank tape, it may be rejected. If you put the original tape into the tape drive, these symptoms repeat, with the tape being ejected and then you are prompted to use it again.

Note This symptom only occurs with stand-alone tape drives, and not with library tape backup systems.

WORKAROUND

  1. Click Abort.
  2. When you are prompted to stop or continue with the backup, click Stop now.

Note Ntbackup.exe indicates that the current backup job is possibly damaged. This is only true for the current backup session. All other backup data from previous sessions are still valid and can be restored.
